I would like to express my concern regarding the proposed increase in the annual registration fee from $470 to $643. While I understand the importance of ensuring the financial stability of CMRITO, I believe this fee increase presents several challenges for registrants like myself, and I respectfully request that Council reconsider the proposal. 1. Lack of Direct Benefit to Registrants The proposed increase appears to serve primarily the interests of public protection and long-term financial sustainability, yet it offers no tangible or immediate benefit to the registrants who would be directly impacted. The financial burden on individual practitioners continues to rise, while we are not seeing corresponding improvements in services or support from the College. 2. Financial Impact on Registrants An increase of over 35% is significant and comes at a time when healthcare professionals are already dealing with rising costs in other areas, including mandatory continuing education, professional insurance, and general living expenses. For many, such an increase will have a substantial negative financial impact, especially for those at the start of their careers or working part-time. 3. Lack of Transparency and Justification The explanation provided does not adequately justify the scale of the increase. While securing financial stability is important, the details of the College’s financial goals and why such a large increase is necessary by 2028 are unclear. I would appreciate more transparency regarding the specific financial pressures or goals driving this decision. 4. Alternatives to Fee Increases Before passing such a substantial increase, I encourage the Council to explore alternative ways to achieve financial sustainability, such as reducing operational costs, diversifying revenue streams, or implementing smaller, incremental increases over a longer period. In conclusion, I believe that the proposed fee increase would place an unnecessary financial burden on registrants without offering corresponding benefits. I urge the Council to reconsider this proposal and explore other options that balance the financial needs of the College with fairness to its registrants. Thank you for considering my feedback.
