Proposed changes to By-law No. 60 regarding annual registration fee

Absolutely disturbing and astonishing decision to increase the fees. You just prove to all sonographers in ON that this committee is nothing but a scam. I am considering relocating to Alberta just to get rid of CMRITO. I already have ARDMS and I need to pay only 95$ a year.

I understand an increase may be necessary to achieve your goals, but this size of an increase is ridiculous. A 37% increase is completely unreasonable. If Landlords are not able to increase rent over 2%, how are you allowed to propose this? Additionally, I would appreciate a breakdown of where every dollar I am giving to you is going. Tell me WHY this increase is necessary, dollar for dollar, and we may be more open to the change.

As a sonographer we are already required to belong to sonography Canada with insurance coverage. Many of us also belong to ARDMS as it was our original governing body. Many of the occupations on your comparison chart have a much higher rate of pay.

I believe this is an unfair increase to members of CMRITO. It is a mandatory membership in order to practice and this puts members in significant financial hardship with mandatory sonography canada fees, cmrito fees, as well as the increasing climate of living. If this increase happens, wage increases must also be a strong priority.

Recently the CAMRT became the CMRITO increasing its membership at least two fold and therefore increasing revenue by a lot ….This should be more than enough to fund the increases needed. Also, if you consider that during COVID; we the MRT's were left out of the increases seen by many other allied health professionals and considering that this change affects the livelihood of over 12,000 MRTs I believe that this increase is not warranted at all . At the very least the time frame of these increases should be extended to at lease 2026 or 2027 year to allow MRTS to adjust and get ready of yet another big change that we obviously will not be able to stop …this is the world we live in today not fair by any means and if you do look at the graph you supplied us with you can clearly see that the other professions make a lot more money than the MRTS for the cost of their fees.

This is too large of a fee increase, and in the current economic climate, unreasonable

I would like to express my dismay and concern regarding the proposed increase to the annual registration fee. It astounds me, when at a time of severe tech shortage across the province, that a fee increased would even be considered. I hope that there are other financially creative ways that can be explored before asking our members to fork over more of our hard-earned money, when we are struggling with so many other expenses.

Fees are too high already compared to service we receive. Do not agree with increase in fees.

As a dedicated professional in this field, I am troubled by the nearly $200 increase, especially given the lack of transparency surrounding the rationale and benefits of this fee hike. As members of not only CMRITO but also organizations like Sonography Canada and ARDMS, we bear multiple financial burdens to maintain our professional standing. The explanation provided for the fee increase—aiming to "reach our financial goals by 2028"—is vague and does not specify how these goals will ultimately benefit our membership. Without clear details on what these financial goals entail, many of us feel that the proposed increase lacks justification. The current economic climate has not favoured our salaries, which are often dictated by union agreements and do not necessarily keep pace with the cost of living. This proposed increase, therefore, poses a significant financial strain, especially for part-time professionals like myself. Maintaining our credentials and supporting our professional development should not come at the expense of our financial stability. Unlike many other medical professions, where facilities often cover professional fees, this support is not typically available for sonography, adding to our financial burden. Furthermore, CMRITO does not offer the same level of support as other organizations, such as insurance or comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. This raises concerns about the value of our membership and why we should invest additional resources in CMRITO when we are already paying for memberships that provide these essential benefits. Given the current staffing shortages in sonography, it is crucial that we foster an environment that supports professionals rather than creating additional barriers to maintaining our credentials. The proposed fee increase could deter many talented individuals from remaining in the field, further exacerbating the staffing crisis. I urge the board to reconsider this fee increase and provide more clarity on the intended financial goals and their benefits to the membership. Transparency and communication are vital for maintaining trust and commitment among members. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The increase is too much too fast. As a new grad, someone at the bottom of the pay scale, with students loans to pay, as well as the cost of living right now… this is just another punch in the gut! I do not support such a drastic increase in fees.

I totally refuse this increase. I’m a DMS working in different private facilities and my payment is almost the same for the last five years in three clinic I work for. Wherever a sonographer asks for raise the answer is the ministry is paying the same to clinic owners. Taking in mind the the huge increase in cost of living after COVID, life is becoming more tough. I see a lot of colleagues quitting the job because they can’t afford a descent life. The CMRITO resources have increased after adding about 4000 sonographers to it in 2017/2018 so I find this increase huge, undue and will affect my wellness

I read the other comments before writing my own and everything I could have possibly said has been reiterated time and time again. This proposed increase in fees is egregious. I do not support it!!

As a generalist sonographer student, I am against the increment of fee considering the financial problems the nation is facing due to high interest rates and inflation

I strongly oppose this proposed fee increase! It is evident that CMRITO is out of touch with the realities facing its members, and just reality in general. Everyone is experiencing significant financial challenges, and this proposed increase would place an additional burden on us during these already difficult times. The CMRITO must demonstrate greater fiscal responsibility. Transparency regarding how member dues are being utilized is critical, and I urge you to provide detailed financial statements that outline the allocation of these funds. We need to understand how our contributions are being spent to rebuild confidence in the organization. It is essential that the organization prioritize the needs and concerns of its members instead of imposing further financial strain. Thank you for considering the voices of your members. I hope to see a reevaluation of this proposed fee increase and a commitment to more transparent communication moving forward.

I do not support the proposed fee adjustment . CMRITO has had an increase in members which makes it difficult to understand why this is a necessary action. It is also a significant increase to an already expensive yearly fee. Considering our current economic climate it’s unfair. This might help CMRITO reach their financial goals but certainly not its members.

The cost of CMRITO membership is already high, increasing cost is only prohibitive to sonographers seeking work in ontario in an already understaffed career.

I do not support this increase. It is already a very expensive fee for receiving nothing as a benefit. I am a casual worker and this increase is equivalent to a whole days work. In addition, because CMRITO does not offer benefits to a Sonographer, I need to purchase PLI through Sonography Canada where I also get the opportunity for CMEs. CMRITO expects 25 hrs of continuing education which in addition cost money. When all is said and done, fees for the year are well over $1000. In addition no other province has the requirement of this college. It is unfortunate that I believe this increase may result in the loss of songraphers specifically

Raising the prices with the economy how it is puts a big financial strain on already struggling members. The cost of living continues to increase while our wages remain the same. We also have to pay out of pocket expenses to maintain our bodies in order to keep working. Without having benefits through our jobs as most these days do not I spend an additional 250-300$ a month on massage and chiropractic appointments just to be able to continue to do my job. Increasing our fee is a big financial burden lots of members cannot afford.
