I disagree with this proposed change of the fees for our license. The comparison put out by the CMRITO that we pay lower than other professions isn’t a valid comparison as these are professions who have more training than we do as MRTs and who also have much higher salaries. We haven’t received a substantial pay raise in years, we aren’t recognized as front line workers, but we are expected to pay double what the nurses pay with this potential increase. It’s lacking empathy and consideration for the technologists that work under the CMRITO. The cost of living has gone up so exponentially and even with our job, which is considered to be above the poverty line wages, people are still struggling to afford their homes and groceries. We are expected to pay for insurance and our continuing education on top of all of this out of our own pocket. The CMRITO doesn’t protect us as techs, we have to find insurance from other governing bodies to protect us but we are expected to pay huge fees to the CMRITO and meet all these expectations and this is the response we receive. It’s disheartening to see it come down to money instead of caring about the people providing care. If it was your loved one that needed an MRT to provide care, you would hope you’re getting one that is dedicated to their job and that won’t be a result of this increased fee. You will drive people out of the profession and invite resentment to settle into the techs who already work so hard and get no recognition for being frontline. Please reevaluate the priorities of upper management needing higher bonuses at the end of the year and instead consider the techs actually doing the work.
