Proposed changes to By-law No. 60 regarding annual registration fee

I have received many emails about the proposed CMRITO increase in fees from my staff as well as other Ontario clinics. Needless to say, they are not happy. Is there anything that can be done to lessen this increase? Maybe a stepwise approach or more clarity to where the money goes? I hate to give advice in areas I am unfamiliar with and I am sure there are reasons for the increase (not having an increase in 13 years is impressive!)....but I am trying to advocate for our valuable technical team. I really oppose this bad idea.

It was deeply disappointing and disheartening to read about this proposed fee increase. This is a huge increase, especially in a time where Ontarian's are already struggling to pay bills. While a small increment would be more palatable, it would have been a surprise considering we have recently added ultrasound that increased revenue with a large increase in members. I believe you will potentially lose members who are casual workers, as the cost to work and commute is getting out of control. We heavily rely on casual workers to support the extreme shortage of MRTs throughout the province. Is there not a way to cut operating costs vs raising membership fees. Please reconsider this fee increase and look within to cut costs, or reach out to the Ontario government for more funding. Especially when Ontario deeply overlooked MRTs during covid, this could be a time where their support of MRTs is heard during long wait times for diagnostic imaging, mainly due to staffing issues/backlogs from covid.

Please do not increase the cost of the registration fee. The cost of living has become so expensive and only continues to increase. By increasing the registration fee, you adding another financial burden to my family life. Many CMRITO members also have to pay CAMRT fees, which equals to a grand total of $1000 yearly to be paid. Increasing the CMRITO fee could potentially mean that we would then have to pay up to $1300 yearly. That is an unreasonable price to pay. Also increasing the registration fee with no additional benefits for members is wrong. MRTs are wildly unrecognized for our hard work and are severely under appreciated

Disagree with increasing the registration fee, it’s already high and not affordable. And we don’t get PLI or CME from CMRITO

This 37% hike is both excessive and unreasonable, especially considering the current economic climate. While CMRITO may have only increased fees twice in the past 32 years, the steepness of this proposed rise, particularly at a time when professionals are grappling with inflation, stagnant wages, and rising living costs, is alarming and inconsiderate. Many registrants, myself included, are already facing financial strain. Such a drastic fee increase will undoubtedly add to this burden, potentially pushing some professionals to reconsider their careers within the field due to these mounting costs. It is important to recognize that while financial sustainability for the College is critical, it should not come at the expense of the very professionals who enable the College to function. The well-being of registrants should be a key factor in decisions of this magnitude. I urge the Council to reconsider this proposal and to explore more reasonable alternatives. A gradual fee increase over several years or a thorough review of operational efficiencies could strike a better balance between financial stability and fairness to registrants. CMRITO must be mindful that its mandate is to regulate in the public interest, which includes ensuring that the professionals it oversees are not unduly burdened by financial hardship. I trust that the Council will seriously consider the feedback from its registrants before moving forward with any changes. We deserve a voice in decisions that directly affect our livelihoods. What you're asking it's a shame. I'm so frustrated with your unreasonable, and out of touch requests. You're at least unaccountable. Just shame on you.

Not fair... That would mean that our fee would be greater than approx what nurses currently pay for their membership even including additional PLI. That's absurd! On top of this, they get more perks such as educational and career opportunities. They also don't have to log their CE either so I'd suggest considering to cut out some jurisprudence activities that take resources to review than to increase our fees as one example of reconsidering the budget vs increasing our fees.

I can understand that dues need to be raised to achieve financial sustainability, however a 27% increase is downright outrageous. My wages certainly haven't gone up that much in the last 5-10 years total! I respectfully suggest that you consider an increase that is not so ridiculous. It is unfortunate that no matter what you do, I will have to pay it in order to retain my designation.

Hi, The current registration fee for members is already quite reasonable. Any further increase in it will put a extra financial burden on members considering the present state of economy. There is high inflation which has already made the living very costly. It is proposed that any future financial targets of CMRITO may be met through other sources like Government Budget in the form of aid, grant or loan. Thanks.

With the added costs of living and the interest rates from banks still at an all-time-high, please consider this into affect when the cost of annual fees should be decreasing with the added Ultrasound techs who are now included to the umbrella. With thousands of new registrants, this should instil lower fees in theory. PLI should also cover any liability debts that may have arise. That is ridiculous! Maybe the CMRITO should have been paying more attention, and gradually increasing the registration fees over the past 13 years. A 37% fee increase all at once is just GREEDY !!!!

Hi CMRITO , First response is : " Absolutely Not " Reasons 1. All Canadians are under immense financial constraints & pressure 2. Canadians are unable to cope with rising Inflation in every sector, for example , Groceries, Mortgages, insurance, rising house rents, rising living expenses 3. Majority of Canadians are unable to fulfill their daily, weekly, monthly , yearly expenses & are coming under huge Debt 4. Economy is stagnant with ltd Job Opportunities 5. Salaries are same as per pre COVID times with absolute no increase 6. Conditions, Circumstances about economy, High Inflation, rising living expenses , difficulties faced by Canadians are all over Electronic , Social & Print Media Keep in all above mentioned Factors in view, There must must & must not be any Rise, increase in annual Registration Fees or for that, matter any other Fees Hope No such decisions will be taken without proper considerations Thanks.

I would like too also mention IHF clinics do not contribute to techs pension plan. This is more money that we cannot add to our savings for our future. This is almost a full week's wage lie our added CME costs. Kind regards.

That is a lot of increase

I'm baffled at why this proposal would be even considered and thought good enough to be brought forward for comments. Each comment has to be reviewed.. maybe think about budget saving options first bc you clearly haven't. Putting reasonable proposals out would have saved costs in things like having potentially a thousand+ negative comments to sift through by November (almost 500 comments in 2 days)...

This is unacceptable, for people who already pay outrageous costs between multiple associations in professional dues. We are already struggling with the rising costs of living without a wage increase, and would now be paying even more just to be able to go to work. Our profession is already underappreciated and undervalued and this isn’t helping matters. I feel taken advantage of by the college which I am forced to be a member of to work. This will do nothing for us except encourage people to drop out of the profession leaving us even more understaffed.

There is no need to raise our fees by 200 dollars, what is this money going to? We are already on paying so much. This is unacceptable.
