I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed increase in the annual registration fee from $470 to $643. While I understand the importance of securing the long-term financial stability of CMRITO, this significant hike in fees is concerning for several reasons. First and foremost, this 37% increase imposes a substantial financial burden on registrants, many of whom have already faced economic challenges in recent years. The current level of $470, which has remained unchanged since 2011, has become an established expense for professionals in our field. Increasing the fee by such a large margin all at once may strain those who are already managing multiple professional and personal financial obligations. In addition to reconsidering the magnitude of the fee increase, I would also suggest that CMRITO explore alternatives to lowering operational costs, such as relocating from downtown Toronto. The high cost of rental space in such a prime location likely contributes significantly to the financial strain. Moving to a more cost-effective location could reduce overhead expenses and lessen the need for such steep increases in membership fees. This could help the College achieve its financial goals without imposing as heavy a financial burden on registrants. Furthermore, while the stated goal is to reach financial stability by 2028, it is unclear why a more gradual approach to fee adjustments over a longer period could not be considered. This would allow for a less abrupt financial impact on registrants while still ensuring that CMRITO achieves its financial objectives. Lastly, it would be beneficial for registrants to have greater transparency regarding the specific financial goals and needs that this fee increase is intended to address. Clearer communication on how these funds will be allocated could foster better understanding and support from the community. I respectfully urge the College to reconsider the proposed increase and explore alternative options, such as a phased approach or reducing overhead costs by relocating, that would be less disruptive for registrants while still addressing the financial goals of the organization. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and any further dialogue on this matter.
