An increase in registration fees is not a good idea for several reasons, especially considering that many medical radiation and imaging professionals are already feeling financial pressure. First, while CMRITO states that fees have only increased twice in the last 32 years, this increase comes at a time when inflation is rising, and salaries have not been adjusted accordingly. Without a corresponding salary increase to match the inflation rate, a significant jump from $470 to $643 would add further financial strain on professionals. Secondly, healthcare professionals already face high costs for ongoing education, certifications, and licensure. These costs, combined with stagnant wages, make it difficult to manage additional expenses without proper compensation. Lastly, while CMRITO's financial sustainability is important, the burden of ensuring it should not disproportionately fall on the registrants, especially when their wages do not keep pace with the cost of living. Before implementing such an increase, the Council should consider other cost-saving measures or alternative funding strategies that would not place further financial stress on professionals already managing increased living expenses.
