The proposed changes are grossly in excess of what is necessary given the historical revenue vs. expenses of CMRITO. This increase would generate an additional $2 million in revenue for CMRITO, which is far above the average annual increase in expenses for the College. A more appropriate increase in registrant fees would be an additional $10-20. Furthermore, it is unwise for the College to make registering as a medical imaging technologist more difficult. There have been critical staffing shortages nationally for a very long time; increasing wait times for patients and delaying access to care. These shortages have also burdened the existing technologists substantially. The cost of living in Ontario is far above the salary of many technologists, with new technologists having no idea if or when they will be able to own a home. Making the cost to be a registrant of the College exorbitantly high, which this proposal does, is a deterrent for people who may be interested in joining the profession. It is not necessary financially, and does not serve the best interests of the people in this province.
