As of January 1, 2026, medical radiation and imaging technologists already registered in another regulated Canadian province, who meet the eligibility criteria, can practice for up to six months while completing their registration requirements with the CMRITO. This initiative supports workforce mobility and helps ensure timely access to diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services across the province.
The As of Right legislation applies to medical radiation and imaging technologists currently registered to practise in a regulated province in Canada in a specialty that is equivalent to a specialty in Ontario.
Full list of conditions for eligibility
To be eligible to practise under the As of Right provisions, applicants must:
- be currently registered and hold an equivalent certificate of registration in another regulated Canadianjurisdiction in the specialty in which they are applying
- not have been refused registration by a Canadian regulatory body within the two years preceding the date of the application to the CMRITO.
- have no finding of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity
- not be the subject of any current professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity proceeding or any similar proceeding
- have no finding of professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity made about or against them because of a proceeding in relation to the profession of medical radiation and imaging technology in another jurisdiction.
- are not the subject of any current professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity proceeding or any similar proceeding in relation to the profession of medical radiation and imaging technology in another jurisdiction.
- holdprofessional liability insurance or similar protection that extends coverage to Ontario.
- only provide professional services to Ontario residents while the person is physically present in Ontario
- only use the titles relevant to their qualifications that are recognized in Ontario
- have submitted the following to the CMRITO prior to providing professional services in Ontario:
- a completedattestation
- a completedapplication for registration with CMRITO for a Canadian labour mobility applicant
Conditions that apply during the six-month period
Those practicing under the As of Right legislation can practice for up to six months while completing their registration requirements with the College.
Applicants practicing under the As of Right legislation are no longer eligible under the As of Right legislation and must stop practicing in Ontario if:
- their CMRITO application for registration is rejected
- they have not been issued a certificate of registration by CMRITO within six months
- they do not continue to meet all the eligibility criteria
