The following are the basic requirements for registration with the CMRITO:
a finding of guilt for a criminal offence or of any offence related to the regulation of the practice of the profession
a current investigation involving an allegation of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity in Ontario in relation to another health profession, or in another jurisdiction in relation to the profession or another health profession
a finding of professional negligence or malpractice made against you
You must not have been the subject of a finding of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity in relation to the profession or another health profession, either in Ontario or in another jurisdiction
You must not currently be the subject of a proceeding involving an allegation of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity in relation to the profession or another health profession, either in Ontario or in another jurisdiction
Your past and present conduct must afford reasonable grounds for the belief that you:
will practise medical radiation and imaging technology with decency, honesty and integrity, and in accordance with the law;
do not have any physical or mental condition or disorder, that could affect your ability to practise medical radiation and imaging technology in a safe manner; and
will display an appropriate professional attitude
You must pay the application fee and, if applicable, the evaluation fee
Successful completion of a medical radiation and imaging technology program in the specialty which meets one of the following criteria:
offered in Ontario and listed in the registration regulation or offered in Ontario and approved by the CMRITO Council as equivalent to a listed Ontario program (approved programs in Ontario)
offered outside Ontario and approved by the CMRITO Council as equivalent to a listed Ontario program (approved programs in Canada but outside Ontario)
offered outside Ontario and considered by the Registration Committee to be substantially similar, but not equivalent, to an approved Ontario program (programs offered outside Canada)
Successful completion of an examination set or approved by the CMRITO Council (for medical radiation technology, the certifying examination of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists or, in certain circumstances, the Ordre des technologues en imagerie medicale en radio-oncologie et en electrophysiologie medicale du Québec and for diagnostic medical sonography, the certifying examination(s) of Sonography Canada)
Clinical practice in the specialty, or successful completion of a medical radiation and imaging technology program referred to above, within the five years immediately before the application
Payment of the applicable fees
You must meet each of the above requirements in the specialty for which you are applying (radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance, or diagnostic medical sonography).
