Employing an MRIT practising under As of Right

Medical radiation and imaging technologists already registered in another regulated Canadian province, who meet the eligibility criteria, can practice for up to six months while completing their registration requirements with the CMRITO.

As of Right applies to medical radiation and imaging technologists currently registered to practise in a regulated province in Canada in a specialty that is equivalent to a specialty in Ontario.

Please note:

  • interjurisdictional MRITs, working under the As of Right legislation in Ontario are not registered with the CMRITO, and therefore, they are not listed on thePublic Register. If an employer needs to verify the MRITs registration, they will need to contact the provincial regulatory body with which they are registered.
  • the CMRITO cannot verify the MRITs eligibility to practice in Ontario before they are registered with the CMRITO
  • the CMRITO cannot provide regulatory oversight (e.g., investigate a complaint) until the MRIT is registered with the CMRITO

Employers are encouraged to maintain a record of MRITs they employ under As of Right including the first day they have provided professional services. Employers may wish to seek updates from their employee respecting the status of their application to the CMRITO during the As of Right exemption period.
