  • CMRITO Council Approves Response to COVID-19 Pandemic

At a special emergency meeting, the CMRITO Council approved a time-limited State of Emergency Policy for the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the emergency policy is to:
    • ensure that CMRITO’s regulatory processes do not put an undue burden on its members or patients
    • work collaboratively with the Ministry of Health to ensure an adequate supply of MRITs during the state of emergency
    • continue to ensure the protection of the public through the regulation of the profession
This policy focuses the work of the College to essential regulatory functions by amending the 2020 Operational Plan approved by Council on December 6, 2019, given the current COVID-19 pandemic state of emergency. As many of the initiatives contained in the 2020 Operational Plan are no longer feasible to complete under the current state of emergency restrictions, Council amended the plan to focus on the essential regulatory initiatives or services, and deferred or cancelled non-essential projects that were planned for this year, including: in-person province-wide professional practice workshops, governance review, new strategic plan development, revised communication guidelines, and new patient information materials.

  • COVID-19 Update

The College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is closely monitoring the situation with the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as it relates to the practice of medical radiation and imaging technologists (MRITs) and the services they provide to patients. As regulated health professionals, MRITs are accountable to their patients and the public to provide safe, effective and ethical medical radiation and imaging technology services. Members of the CMRITO do this every day by ensuring that their practice meets the legislative requirements and standards of the profession in all types of practice situations, including during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

As MRITs are aware, there are effective infection prevention and control measures in place across the Ontario health system, especially in the hospitals, clinics and cancer centres where MRITs practise. In addition, MRITs are required to use appropriate infection control procedures in the course of the diagnostic or therapeutic procedure being performed (CMRITO Practice Standard #4, Safe Practice, indicator m).

  • CMRITO Professional Practice Workshops

Throughout 2020, Deputy Registrar Caroline Morris will be conducting a series of workshops across the province focusing on professional practice.

The first two workshops – scheduled for Toronto in February and Brampton in March – are now full. If you are still interested in attending either of these events, please use the links in the messages sent to CMRITO members this week to add your name to the waitlists for these sessions.

The workshops will concentrate on the CMRITO Standards of Practice and patient and family focused care.

Using interactive discussions and case studies, the workshops will cover the accountabilities and practice expectations of each CMRITO member as a self-regulated professional. Attendees will also examine patient communication best practices, and participate in exercises where you can share your expertise and collaborate with colleagues about providing compassionate patient and family focused care to your patients.
