On May 15, 2023 amendments to the Controlled Act Regulation (O. Reg. 107/96) made under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 allow CRTO members to return to utilizing diagnostic ultrasound in their practice without delegation, under the order of a physician or nurse practitioner.
- These amendments mean that, in addition to members of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario and members of the College of Nurses of Ontario, respiratory therapists are now able to provide diagnostic ultrasound imaging.
- This amendment does not change or alter the authority of medical radiation and imaging technologists with specialties in diagnostic medical ultrasound from performing ultrasounds. It simply restores the ability of CRTO members to do the same.
