What you must know about ... consent

CMRITO is pleased to release an updated guideline for MRITs in radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance and diagnostic medical sonography.

Consent is an essential component of patient centered care, is vital for patient safety, and is required prior to performing any procedure. What you must know about … consent is an updated practice guideline that includes information for CMRITO members that:

  • outlines the principles of informed consent
  • identifies what MRITs must explain to patients before starting a procedure
  • highlights sections of the Standards of Practice that outline the consent process and the obligations of MRITs
  • provides a consent checklist identifying the things that MRITs must do before, during, and if they propose a procedure
